From 2014-2015 I made several journeys to Everest Base Camp and the Sherpa communities all over the Khumbu region of Nepal for a magazine story about Sherpa culture and conflict with Western climbers. I was not a high altitude climber but ade an attempt on Ama Dablam for the story, traveling ABOVE 21,000 FEET to photograph Sherpa climbers setting lines and guiding in extreme conditions. Much of the story eventually became about “SORROW ON THE MOUNTAIN,” after 16 SHERPAS DIED in an avalanche on the icefall above camp. In the aftermath I organized one of the FIRST FLASH PRINT SALES on Instagram rallying my peers who had also photographed the region, and raised, all told, $500,000+ for the families of the lost climbers through a quickly propped up website called SHERPA PHOTO FUND. In the years after I also lectured on the topics of Sherpa culture and climbing with NAT GEO LIVE.
