This Sufism work was not originally commissioned by National Geographic, but was the first photography I had published inside that famed “yellow border.” I travelled the world for 8 years looking at Mystic Islam after 9-11 and found the Peace, Love, and Poetry of Islam in the Sufis. My work took Yemen, Ethiopia, Egypt, Mali, Afghanistan, even the US, but it was the shrines and Urs gatherings of Pakistan that brought me back the most. Here is a COVER STORY for Smithsonian magazine from an extremely wild adventure in the Sindh. And here is a Nat Geo online piece called “Photographer Aaron Huey’s Sufi Survival Guide: 11 ESSENTIAL DANCE MOVES” that is missing its photos, but that goes with videos like THIS, and THIS.
